Highlight
About Peacemaking in the Past, Present, and Future Hints to reflect upon, think deeply, and take steps forward; 'Peace x Piece' is woven throughout the exhibition.

First ever university museum dedicated to peace

It is the first university-run peace museum among more than 110 peace museums in the world.

It was established on May 19, 1992, in order to foster peacemakers who are aware of the social responsibility that universities should fulfill in terms of peacemaking. The museum provides exhibits and activities that encourage people to take steps toward peace by learning from past wars about the trends that lead to various contemporary problems such as discrimination, violence, and poverty.

The permanent exhibition features a large chronological timeline that explores the future of peace, grounded in the memories of war and the history of the search for peace. It also includes four thematic exhibits designed to deepen visitors' understanding of peace, along with an “Inquiry Plaza.” The museum offers visitors the opportunity to reflect on their thoughts and emotions through the exhibits and share these with others.

Interactive guided tours are available free of charge, with reservations required at least two weeks in advance. Educational kits for schools are also available for rent.

Located on the second floor, the Peace Commons includes a library dedicated to peace education and serves as a space for independent study after the tour.

The museum also features the “Mugonkan/Kyoto-kan: Inochi no Gashitsu (Atelier of Life),” which displays artworks created by students who lost their lives in the war.
