2.6 million academically-significant specimens supporting a broad range of research fields

Kyoto University Museum is one of the largest university museums in Japan.
It was established in 1997 to promote the university’s abundant collection of academically-significant specimens, which have been assembled by faculties since the university’s founding.
Through active educational and research activities based on this collection, the Museum acts as a “window” for bringing the university’s educational and research wealth to the public.
The museum’s collection of approximately 2.6 million items includes national treasures, important cultural properties, and biological type specimens for scientific inventory, among many others. Specialized research staff assemble, manage, and study the collection, supporting the museum’s function as a key domestic institution for fields of sample-based research.
