Experience the wonder of Heian dynastic culture

Using one-quarter scale dolls in full sartorial splendor and two magnificent Heian palace scenes, this museum puts the Heian period into 3D perspective via the world in the “Tale of Genji”, a classic that embodies Heian culture.
Not only does the visitor get to see the opulence of Genji and his lovers but also the fine detail on the costumes of the other court ladies is evident too.
In addition, the museum has a model room, showing faithfully reproduced costumes from The Tale of the Bamboo-Cutter and Ascension of Princess Kaguya, two stories from the early days of the Heian period.
The museum was opened in 1974.
